Ferry Basin
Located about 6 miles southwest of Moiese, in Sanders County, Montana
Elevation 5650 feet

About 1935, a 14x14' cabin was built. This was replaced by the present 20' treated timber tower flat cab in the 1970's. It is staffed every summer.

Located 5 miles west of St. Ignatius, in Sanders County, Montana
Elevation 4884 feet

Located on the National Bison Range, this 65' steel Aermotor tower and frame cabin, built in 1934, were gone by 1986. The tower functioned as both a fire lookout and wildlife observation point.

Located 12 miles east of Arlee in Lake County
Elevation 7769 feet


This treated timber tower with R-6 flat cab, was built here about 1970 . It is now only staffed during emergencies. R-6lookouts use a standard 15 by 15 foot frame lookout house. The roof is flat and extends beyond eh cabin a few feet to provide shade.

Originally constructed at another site, this 53-foot treated timber tower with R-6 flat cab, built here in 1970, is staffed during the summer.

Elevation 1508 feet


No longer in use. this lookout was a steel tower with an eight-foot square cabin perched on top. When it was in service, the person operating the lookout had to scramble down from the steel tower each time a thunderstorm came rolling in.

Located 23.5 miles west of Dayton in Sanders County, Montana
Elevation 6391 feet


A lookout was first posted on the peak in the late 1950s or early 1960s. A new lookout with a 12-foot-high cinderblock base and 16x16-foot cabin was built in 1983 and put into service in 1984. The nicest lookout on the reservation, it is staffed every summer.
