Fire on the Land explores this history and the contemporary use of fire by the Salish and Pend d'Oreille Tribes of the Flathead Indian Reservation.

Explore the River examines the Salish and Pend d’Oreille people's traditional use of the Jocko River and their efforts to restore and protect it. This learning module takes a close-up look at the Jocko River’s hydrology, its natural history, and the role that humans have played in the valley since time immemorial.

The interactive map at the heart of this website presents a range of topics, from the river’s geology to canyon wrens and westslope cutthroat trout and from the history of Kerr Dam to the Pablo/Allard bison herds that once grazed the floodplain. Using photos, charts, essays, and videos, students and teachers can learn all about the river in preparation for the Tribes’ Annual River Honoring.
